Susan was born in Chicago, IL. and grew up in a suburb 30 miles west. She enjoyed many days exploring the Illinois Prairie Path and evenings collecting lightning bugs for a pharmaceutical company. Her passion for wildlife, especially birds, grew while attending College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, IL, and at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN, where she received a B.A. in Biology. At SCSU she illustrated water bugs for the entomology professor. After graduation her and her partner collected and identified over 1,000 moths donating all to their alma mater.

For 12 years Susan lived near Lake Superior in Hancock, MI (Michigan’s Upper Peninsula), where she helped build a home. She also served as President of the Copper Country Audubon Club. Susan has conducted many bird surveys both privately and publicly in MI and at Pedernales Falls State Park, Johnson City, TX, and has published papers in both states.

Susan moved to Austin, TX in 2005 where she has worked for EEA Engineering Consultants, as Electrical Designer. Her most recent volunteer endeavor is still at proposal stage, using the Boy Scouts, to make the place she works (a 5 acre parcel), Wildlife Habitat Certified by the National Wildlife Federation.

Susan was instrumental in making their property Wildlife Habitat Certified by building bird houses and maintaining bird feeders and bird baths. Now, because of the diversity of vegetation, water resources, and feeding stations, kimo and Susan’s yard attracts many different bird, butterfly and dragonfly species and provides some wonderful Nature viewing experiences.
