Our Milkyway Homestead and Ponds
Front Yard
Front Yard
The front-yard flower beds are comprised almost entirely of Native plants.  We still experiment with what thrives best in the micro-environment available.  There are two ash trees reaching the end of their life-span, but they continue to provide dappled light most of the day.  Some of the beds are mulched while those closer to the road are covered with mixed gravel.  We aim to continue emphasizing more xeric plant species in the heavy stone areas in the front yard, reducing its water needs.

Also note our Certified Wildlife Habitat sign.  If a home owner provides four basic wildlife needs: 1) food, 2) water, 3) a place to raise their young, and 4) cover; their yard can be certified by the National Wildlife Federation.  We have enjoyed many hours of wildlife viewing by providing these four basic needs.
Bird Feeder & Bird Baths
If you see us sitting outside in the "French Quarter" (the seating area to the right of the house), know you are welcome to join us. Our intention with the stone path from the street leading to our sitting area, is to make our yard inviting to all who pass by.  If you are taking a stroll, driving by, or just walking your dog, know you are welcome to join us for a chat around the table outdoors.
What you see here is the only grass we have in our entire yard.  In fact, we sold our lawn mower in 2013 after establishing these native flower beds.  Now we tend our lawn only with a weed whacker.  No more loud smoking machines on these premises.
